FOOD FOR TEENS: COLD WATER

Welcome to the beautiful month of December, greetings in the name of Jesus. I want to talk to you on something it I titled Cold Water. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 25:25, "As cold water is to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country." According to the above scripture, the writer is trying to describe good news as Cold water, and we know that good news refers to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and far country refers to heaven.

So we can render that scripture as follows: “Just as cold water is to a thirsty soul, so is the gospel of Jesus from heaven to man.” To further explain this, let us look at Lazarus and the rich man, Luke 16:22-28, “So it was that the beggar died and was carried by the angel to Abraham’s bosom, the rich man also died and was buried and being in torment in hades he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. Then he cried and said father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue for I am tormented in the flame. But Abraham said son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things and likewise Lazarus evil things but now he is comforted and you are tormented. And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us. Then he said ‘I beg you therefore, father that you would send him to my father’s house.”

The above scripture is about Lazarus and the rich man. When the rich man got to hell, he asked Lazarus for water to cool his tongue, remember the Bible likened this water to the gospel, my dear teenagers you only have your life time to accept the gospel of Jesus because after death there is no repentance. Now watch out for something else in verse 27, after he was denied water in hell, he asked for the gospel to be preached to his brothers here on earth.

Every sinner in the world has a strong thirst in their soul and only the gospel, like cold water can quench it. But some of them are not aware that their only solution is in Christ. No wonder in Matthew 11:5-6 Jesus revealed that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the solution to every man’s problems. No wonder Apostle Paul said in Romans 1:16-17 that he’s not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ because it is power of God unto salvation to ever one who believes.
Then in John 4:7-15 Jesus had an encounter with a woman of Samaria by the well. He asked her for water because He was physically thirsty but He ended up offering her the living water. As many who will accept Jesus automatically receives that water and it springs unto everlasting life. But our responsibility as believers is not only to receive this water but to share this water with as many that are thirsty around us. God will require this of us.

Remember Jesus said in Matthew 25:35b, “I was thirsty and you gave me to drink.” Jesus wasn’t just referring to physical water only but from the living water that God has given us. We should give others who are in need who are in need through our words and actions that way we will be a bringer of God’s goodness everywhere we go. No wonder apostle Paul said in Romans 10:15a, "how beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things.”

Be conscious of that precious gospel you carry and bless your world with it because they need it more than they know. Have a wonderful Christmas and a prosperous new year. God bless you and see you next year.
