FOOD FOR TEENS: Know Thyself part one

Hello teens, welcome to another month of God’s favour and prosperity. Hope you are growing in the knowledge of God?
A large number of believers do not know who they are, if someone asks a believer a question such as tell me about yourself, or someone asks a believer ‘who are you?’ By their response you will be able to see and understand that a lot of believers do not really know who they are. You will hear responses such as “ I am so an so by name, I live in so and so place, I am from so and so place, I am so and so in complexion , I am tall or short, I am so and so by profession and so on and so forth. They will tell you their likes and dislikes, hobbies and what they do for fun, what drives them and all that. These things on their own are not wrong but to base your identity on everything your five senses can assimilate means that you do not really know who you are as a believer and you are thereby selling yourself short.

The first thing you have to know about yourself is that you are a spirit, whether you are a believer or not, man is a spirit. According to James 2:26, “For as the body without the spirit is dead.” The life of every flesh you see is in their spirit (Numbers 16:22) that is why when a spirit leaves a body, momentarily that body is dead, no physical body can function without their spirit. The spirit is the real man and the nature if a man’s spirit is that man’s true identity. So to know who you really are, you need to know your spirit’s identity.

There are two types of spirit at work in every man you see on earth:

1. The spirit of sin and death (Ephesians 2:1-2), “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; where in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience.” The children of disobedience are those born in the flesh from the lineage of Adam. Adam was the one that disobeyed and as a result of his disobedience every descendant had the same spirit of disobedience as Adam, which is the spirit that works according to the course of this world, and according to the prince of the power of the air which is the devil. Romans 5:12, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned.” The people who have this kind of spirit in them are those who walk in the flesh and all their actions are inspired by their feelings and their senses.

These set of people, no matter how wealthy they are or how seemingly successful they appeat, they are all under the bondage of sin and of the devil. These are the people that describe themselves in the flesh ans see their true identity based on what happens in and around them.

They are subject to the elements of this world; no matter how far they seem to have gotten they never find true fulfillment in life. There always seem to be something missing in them and most times they can never tell you what.

To be continued. See you next month. God bless you.
