IT'S NOT WORTH IT: DON'T BE A MURDERER

Greetings beloved, I believe you are increasing in the knowledge of God. I will be sharing with you on what I titled ‘Don’t Be A Murderer.’

What comes to mind when murder is mentioned? A lot of persons only see murder as a deliberate and illegal killing of a person, but that is not the only way God sees it. The Bible says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." (Isaiah 55:8-9). You can vividly and obviously see that the way God sees things are absolutely different from the way man does. In 1st Samuel 16:7, the Bible says, “But the LORD said unto Samuel, look not on his countenance, not on the height of his stature; because I have refused him for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”

In the old testament, Judgment and responses from God was basically from the people’s action outwardly, because it was a covenant of the flesh, but in the new testament, God responds usually to the condition of our heart (Our spirit). Now the very power source of your action is what is weighed and not what people see outwardly.  In 1st John 3:15, the Bible says, “Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.” Does your heart burn with hatred towards another? This verse reveals the implication of hatred. All that keeps you from committing murder is the fear of reprisal retaliation from God or humans. If you could get away with it some way, hatred would always invariably lash out into murder as it did in that first scene between Cain and Abel. Where ever hate is, murder is always the possibility and in the eyes of God, it is as good as done. God reads the heart, so He does not need to wait for the actions. This is what the Lord Jesus Himself taught in Matthew 5:21-22 in the Sermon on the Mount. He said, “Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shall not kill, and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.”

What does it reveal when a Christian hates? Let’s be honest and admit that it is all too frequently true some Christians hate one another and show hatred towards each other and towards those outside of Christ. But John tells us, “You know that no murderer has eternal life in him.” Meaning that the eternal life that Christ has given is no longer in control of the individual; it is no longer abiding in him. It does not mean that people cease to be Christians when they hate, but they cease to act like Christians that they have become. Eternal life is no longer abiding in them, and they have slipped back into the control of the devil. It is not that love is not available to them but that it does not abide in them. If we hate someone we have become the temporary slave of Satan. We are God’s children doing the devil’s work, and we need to face it on that level.

What is the way to control hatred? For the world in general there can be no answer apart from the regenerating work of the Lord Jesus Christ and the cross of Calvary. It takes the power of God to break the power to hate. But what about the Christians? Do you resort to the folly of trying to suppress it? Do you bite your lip and say nothing but go away with your heart burning, miserable and unhappy? You are still under the control of evil and sooner or later, he will take you farther than you want to go. The only control is what we read about here in the epistle of John. Judge this thing; deal with it as God sees it. Call it what it is- hatred- originating from the devil. Then confess it, agree with God about it, tell Him so. You will then receive the answering power of love from the Son of God who dwells in your heart. The fountain of the Holy Ghost is ever ready to pour out words of love and appreciation, approval, and acceptance in place of hatred. Until we live on these terms, we have not begun to demonstrate the life that is in Jesus Christ. That is why the exhortation comes: “My little Children, let us not love in word, neither in tongues but indeed and in truth.” (1st John 3:18).

God bless you. See you next month
