DON'T TRUST IN MAN

Psalms 60:11, “Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.” Psalm 108:12, “Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.”
Any time you see a scripture or a particular statement appear twice in the Bible, know that it is a critical statement which you must pay attention to. The Bible says “in the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established” – 2nd Corinthians 13:1. When scripture begins to echo a particular truth twice or more, it is because it is something that is critical for your well-being and you must look deeply into it.

Many years ago, I walked with a man who kept saying that the reason he was poor and broke was because he had nobody to help him. He kept saying he had no rich father, mother, brother or uncle to help him. The Bible said in 1st Corinthians 1:27-29, “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. And the base things of the world and the things which are despised hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.” If men have to glorify you, who do you think will take the glory? If men are the ones that lifted you up, how do you testify of the goodness of God? God does not need help from any man to lift you up except the one whom he has sent. If God doesn’t send help to you the person that tries to help you cannot play the role of a helper. The only man that can help you is the one whom the Lord has sent. Sometimes, God may not even use a man. For example, in the case of Elijah He used a raven. For Moses He used a rod, and for David a sling and a stone. But one thing is certain, if you don’t expect the help of men, God will send help to you and also be your help.

In John 5, scripture talks about a man who was sick for thirty eight years and lying by the pool of Bethesda waiting for the help of man. The Bible says an angel often comes at a certain season to trouble the pool and whenever the pool is troubled, the first sick person that gets into the pool is healed. Jesus came to this invalid man and asked, ‘would you be made whole? Instead of the man to answer a simple yes! He started complaining, saying, ‘I have no man, when the water is troubled to put me into the pool. He said, anytime I want to step into the pool because of my condition, somebody else will get in before me.’

Often times we are so used to the same way of doing things that we don’t even hear or know when God is beckoning at us to change our tactics. The man has so depended on the help of angel and man, that he forgot the help of God completely. Even when God was standing by to help him, he didn’t recognize it, his eyes were on angel and man. I don’t know who is playing the role of an angel in your life. I also do not know who is playing the role of a macho man in your life, but I dare to tell you that there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24), His name is Jesus and He said, I am come that you may have life and life abundantly – John 10:10.

And Jesus said unto this impotent man, “Rise take up thy bed, and walk.” He didn’t pray or prophesy. No laying on of hands, just a simple instruction and as he obeyed he was made whole. For thirty eight years that man was held bound looking at a pool. He was limited by the expectation of an angel whose day of visitation he didn’t know. He expected help from men, which he never got and above all, he though he couldn’t succeed by himself because he limited himself by his condition. In that condition was the strength of God to succeed but yet his focus was men.

The opening scripture said, “Give us help from trouble; for vain is the help of man.” Any time you are looking on man, don’t ever think you are looking on God. Jesus said, “If your eyes be single, your whole body will be full of light.” – Matthew 6:22. In other words, if you focus only on God, revelation or light will come for the solution to that trouble or situation. Jeremiah 17:5-6 said, “Thus saith the LORD, cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm and whose heart departeth from the LORD.” For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh, but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land not inhabited.”
What is the heath in the desert? It is a small shrub that grows in the desert place. It is ever small and never grows big no matter the number of year it has lasted. But Jeremiah 17:7-8 said, “Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.” What a difference. I choose to be like a tree planted by the rivers of waters. I choose to be blessed.

When God called Abraham, He called him alone (Genesis 12:1) but he chose to take or allow Lot to follow him. Lot means a veil and he became a veil that covered Abraham’s beautiful destiny. As long as Lot was with Abraham his destiny was cut short. He couldn’t hear from God. He could not access the help of God until Lot was separated from him. Many people can't hear God and see miracles in their lives because they have in their pocket a talisman that they depend on. You need to be separated from some persons or somethings to receive the glory of God in your life. As long as they remain with you, you keep leaning on them for everything that is why you can’t depend on God. Until you lift your eyes up, you see nothing, what you are seeing is what God will do in your life.

God bless you. See you next month.
