IT'S NOT WORTH IT: WHAT SHALL IT PROFIT YOU

Dearly beloved, I welcome you into the month of June in the name of the Lord Jesus. I thank my God for you for His mercy and covering over you. This month I will be admonishing you on a very important subject titled, “What Shall It Profit You?”
The bible says in Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?” This is a proposed question and should be of deep concern and thought to us. So many are concerned in this present world on how to gain the world but not remembering or giving attention to their souls. It is important to note that the whole world cannot be compared to the value of your soul. Your soul is so important that the value of the entire world could not redeem it but the life of the Son of God. Think about it.
Beloved, one needs to be willing to give up everything in order to be a follower of Jesus Christ; worldly suffering shouldn’t be a deterrent. This is the context of Jesus’ question, “what good is it for someone to gain the world and forfeit his soul?” If a person rejects Jesus and becomes the richest, most powerful person on earth, he has made a poor decision, sooner or later, earthly things will fade away. And such a person will have lost the only part of his life that lives forever. The day of reckoning is coming: “For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his work.” Matthew 16:27.
There is nothing more valuable than a person’s soul. To trade your soul away for the sake of the world’s gain is a foolish decision and one that comes with great regret in due time. Esau despised his birthright, choosing pottage of lentils instead; Judas sold the Saviour for a few pieces of silver; Demas loved this present world and forsook ministry. All three men thought they were gaining something but actually lost everything. It is important to stop and reflect on our decision and choices because we might not have the chance to hit the mark twice. Today billions classify themselves as Christians but do most of us really dedicate ourselves to living Christian lives or we are living for self-achievements, honour, fame, glory, recognition and wealth at the very expense of our soul?
The bible says in Luke 12:15, “And he said unto them, Take heed and beware of covetousness: For a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of things which he possesseth.” Beloved, why then is your life geared towards acquiring the world’s gain only? Your life is not measured by the mass of wealth, money, cars, women, houses you gathered to yourself, but how much your life was an impact to God’s kingdom, His work and the life of others. A life spent running after the world’s gain is a life spent running for vanity and shadows. It is a deception of the devil, so you cannot attain the reality and purpose of God for your life.
Jesus said in Revelation 16:15, “Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth and keepth his garment, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.” May we not walk naked and may our shame not be seen in Jesus name. But we must understand that we must watch and keep our garment because His coming is going to be like as a thief. As a result we must take our attention away from attaining this world’s gain at the expense of our soul and God’s purpose for our lives.
Beloved, your soul is so important to God, there is so much God wants to achieve through you. Don’t waste it, take your eyes away from the wrong things and focus it on Jesus alone. I tell you, you will not regret your decision because you will not just be gaining in the world but in the life after now.
May God grant us understanding in Jesus name. God bless you. See you next month.
