IT'S NOT WORTH IT: MIND YOUR WORDS

Dearly beloved, you are welcome to the glorious month of June. May this month be an all-round blessing for you in Jesus name. This month I will be sharing on what I titled "mind your words."

In proverbs 18:21 the Bible says, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." Everything God gave us is activated through speech-words. Many, however don't understand the power of words. The primary function of your mouth and your tongue is to steer your life in God's direction for you. But so many have used it otherwise, for pain, for sorrow, they have used what has been put in them to harm their lives, as a weapon against themselves. This ought not to be so.

Remember what the Bible tells us about God in the book of Genesis, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, let there be light: and there was light." (Genesis 1:1-3). The first words we noticed from God wasn't to somebody; rather, He started by talking to situations and circumstances. What are you speaking to that situation confronting you? Are you speaking life or death? God in the beginning was showing us how to make things happen through the power of words, showing us what we are supposed to do with words. He wanted light and He said, "...let there be light." and light came into being. But many Christians today instead of speaking light (Healing, protection, deliverance, prosperity) speak death (sickness, poverty, death) because of what they see, what they feel at the moment.

Beloved, your words locate you, what you say determines where you'll be in life. That's the reason it is so important for you to avoid talking negatively. Your negative words cages you. It puts you at a point of disadvantage and open the door for Satan to fulfill his ministry in your life. "Thou art snare with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. " (Proverbs 6:2). A wise man once said, " your words are seeds." Stop planting negative seeds in your life, your children, in your job, in your business. Plant good seeds because the seeds you plant today will determine what you harvest tomorrow. For instance when a Christian declares, "I can't do such and such," He may think that only applies to the context of that particular statement, but it is not so. That statement immediately works in his spirit and affects his divine nature. This accounts for why some Christians are in a dilemma in their walk of faith. They think they know the word of faith; yet they are not getting the right results of the word in their lives, and they wonder why the contradiction. The reason is that they've programmed too much negativity in their spirits which must be changed. And only the word of God can make that happen. Learn to think and talk right. Talk according to scriptures.

Do your words build-up or tear down? Are they harmful or helpful? Destructive or motivative/beneficial? The letter to the Ephesians 4:29, advised that the children of God should use words that are helpful, inspiring and beneficial. The Colossians were advised to say things that brings joy, pleasure, delight, sweetness, charm and loveliness; seasoned with salt speech prepared with wisdom and sound judgement, "walk in wisdom towards them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man." (Colossians 4:5-6).

We talk a lot and quite often pay no attention to what we are saying, let alone think seriously about the impact of our words. If you are honest with yourself, you may find that some of your bad moods are directly linked to your conversations. Even some of your problems can be linked to bad choices you make about what you say. I want to encourage you to take some time and think about the type of things you usually talk about. What kind of conversations do you enjoy and participate in? One thing is sure, speaking negatively could hurt you and speaking positively never will, so why not go with the positive and see what kind of results you get?

God bless you and see you next month.
