IT'S NOT WORTH IT: SELF CONDEMNATION Part Two

Dearly beloved, I welcome you to the month of August in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. May the glory of God be revealed in you more this month. Here is a continuation of last month’s edition

How do we know if our guilt is coming from godly conviction for a wrong we have done or if our guilt is produced by the devil? When the devil accuses us, repentance never satisfies. We still feel as bad as before. The devil is the thief, he wants to steal your joy, your peace and destroy that walk you have with the Father because his mission according to John 10:10, “The thief cometh not but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” You see, if he can’t get us to sin, he will try to make us feel as though we have sinned. Not only does the devil condemn us, we can blame ourselves. Listen to Job’s words, “If I justify myself mine own mouth shall condemn me: If I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse.” (Job 9:20).

The devil prefers to keep our guilt clouded over so we can stay confused. That is why God said in Isaiah 1:18, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: thought your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” In other words, He is saying, come to me so we can discuss your problem. Don’t stay in a corner suffering over your wrong. In John 6:37, the Lord also said, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” You see He wants you to come as you are. He wants you to come close. He is so much interested in unloading all of your heavy burdens.

Well, the Bible doesn’t say that He will accept us nine times, but the tenth He will cast us out. No! He receives us every time we are sincerely sorry for our failure. For “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1st John 1:9). Thank God, we can know the truth, the truth will set us free (John 8:32).

We are not doomed to self-condemnation. God can give us peace. This was the Apostle Paul’s prayer, “And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless…” (1st Thessalonians 5:23). So, implore Him to free your spirit, soul and body from all blame. The Almighty can do it 1st John 3:20 tells us, “For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.”

Beloved, there’s no need for anyone of God’s children to keep wearing the heavy cloak of self-condemnation. If by any chance you do something wrong, you confess your sins, he is faithful and just to forgive you and cleanse you. Thereafter, you don’t need to keep condemning yourself over the same matter. Above all, don’t try to live up to the expectations of others; rather live up to the expectations of the word of God. That way you’ll experience the liberty that comes from walking by faith, and not your feelings. God no longer condemns you, so don’t condemn yourself.

God bless you. See you next week.
