IT'S NOT WORTH IT: DON'T BE WISE IN YOUR OWN EYES

Dearly beloved of God, I welcome you to the month of December. I thank the Lord Almighty for His shield and covering over you this year. I will be admonishing you on what I titled ‘Don’t be wise in your own eyes.’

The book of Proverbs 3:5-7 says, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and learn not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him; and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord and depart from evil.” So many persons are so wise in themselves and think that they are wiser than He who created them. They get involved and joyfully practice things which the Lord has clearly instructed them not to get involved in and expect to come out shining. They decide to flaunt the instructions of God, thinking their own reasoning will do a better work. The Bible says, “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this world? Hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” (1st Corinthians 1:18-21,25). Note this beloved, God is wiser.

In the book of Luke 17, the Bible talked about ten lepers. These lepers were fully aware of their predicament, they knew their conditions to the extent they were brought out of the city and separated far away from others. They understood they had no solution but Jesus Christ the healer. The Bible says they lifted up their voice and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” Luke 17:13. And the Bible says, “And when He saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourself unto the priests. And it came to pass, that as they went, they were cleansed.” (Luke 17:14). Sometimes what might be instructed to do to get out of our present predicament might seem so insignificant compared to the magnitude of the situation confronting us, yet some people will decide to put it into reasoning. These ten lepers didn’t reason the words of Jesus, they moved as instructed them by the Lord and in obedience they got their miracles. So many people have lost their miracles not because God is incapable but because they thought they were wise in their own eyes and demean the instructions of God for their lives.

There are lots of people who are still been deceived by the devil and their seemingly wise minds that giving for the kingdom advancement is a complete waste of time and finances. They believe that those doing so are making themselves poor while making the church and the pastor rich. The Bible says, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give unto your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Luke 6:38. Who is wiser, you or God? Hebrews 10:25 says, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” But you decide to be with friends, sleep or stay at home. God who said so have something special to better your life but you chose your own path and deliberately exempt yourself from the congregation of the saints. Who is wiser?

Beloved, who would have thought putting singers ahead of the people will bring about the victory over a multitude of army. (2nd Chronicles 20). Who would have thought Naaman would be healed after having a dip seven times in river Jordan as he was instructed by Elisha. (2nd Kings 5). Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Follow and do as the Lord has instructed you through His word, by the leading of His Spirit, through your Pastor. For certainly your life will never have a backward turn but propelled forward for His glory

See you next month. Merry Christmas and a Prosperous new year. God bless you.
