DON'T GAIN THE WORLD AND LOSE YOUR SOUL

Hello beloved saints, I heartily welcome you to a glorious month of June. I believe you are growing in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ? I will like to share with you on something so profound and I pray God comes alive in your heart in the name of Jesus.

When we say it’s not worth it. What exactly do we mean? It means the value of what you are buying is not commensurate with the cost. Mark 8:36 says, “For what shall it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Jesus said that your soul is worth more than the rest of the world put together. We need to grasp what is meant by “the whole world”. For this is not only the physical or geographical world. It includes the business world, the scientific world, and the intellectual world. Jesus said that your soul is worth more than the entire world.

Jesus’s question in Mark 8:36 is a very important one. In context, Jesus was speaking of dying to self and selfishness in order to find your true life in God. He was speaking of giving up the life you came up with for the life God plans for you to have. Many spend their lives pursing money, fame, influence etc. Some achieve their goals and others don’t but even for those who achieve what the world would call success, if you did not do it God’s way, you will find that it came at a great price. That price is your eternal soul.

Jesus was not against earthly wealth, power or influence. Jesus was against sin, selfishness and self promotion. Instead of pursuing ‘things’ (the money, the cars, the houses, the man, the woman etc), Jesus taught us to pursue God. When we pursue God and His purpose for our lives, we will find that ‘thing’ will pursue us – Matthew 6:33. Jesus did not see giving up His life as a loss. He saw it as a gain, if it meant doing what the father wanted. If we must succeed in life, we must learn to see sacrifice the way Jesus did. In Christ, losing is gaining, Philippians 3:7-8, 14 says, “But what things were gain to me, those I counted but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: For whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung that may win Christ. I press towards the mark for the price of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

There is no excellency in the world and its deed (its practices) but there is an eternal prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Losing any selfish desire that will lead you OUTSIDE of God’s purpose for your life will lead to IMMEASURABLE GAINS. Proverbs 14:12 says, “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” The way of the world is a way and it might seem right but it never ends up right. God says it’s a way to death. This indicates that all ways are not ways but there is only one right way. John 14:6, Jesus said He is the way. This then shows that anything that does not go in the way of Jesus, who is the word and the word is the truth (John 17:17) endangers our souls.

Nothing in this world is worth losing your soul over. Surrender to God and you will not only experience eternal riches but you will also get to experience an amazing life – The life planned for you to live before the foundation of the world.

Continue next month. May God bless you.
