ANGER MANAGEMENT

Hello my dearly beloved saints. Grace and truth be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I perceive strongly in my spirit to admonish you on “ANGER MANAGEMENT.

Everybody expresses anger at one point nor the other. No man is exempted from this emotional expression. Anger is a good emotion if controlled properly. Jesus expressed some anger when He cleansed the temple and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seat of those that sold doves – Matthew 21:12-13. He did that to correct those who were making mockery of the temple of God and using it for business instead of prayer.

According to the scripture, God commended the anger of Phinehas when he thrust a javelin through a man of Israel and the Midianitish woman he brought to the camp of Israel – Numbers 25:6-8. God’s commendation of his act as expressly written in Numbers 25:10-13 says, “And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Phinehas, the son of Eleazer, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the Children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy. Wherefore, say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace: And he shall have it and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.”

Anger when properly expressed in fulfillment of God’s purpose is looked upon by the Lord as zeal and God often time rewards such act of courage. Hence scripture says in Ephesians 4:26 thus, “Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath.” A man has a right to be angry but that anger or wrath must not lead him to sin because according to James 1:19-20, “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” God’s power is hindered in an atmosphere of wrath.

What is wrath? It means vengeful anger. An anger that is attributed to vengeance. Anytime there is such anger in a man, God’s power to help him is diminished. This is because an atmosphere of anger is an atmosphere of strife and according to James 3:16, “For where envying and strife is there is confusion and every evil work.” Many people like Moses have truncated God’s purpose for their lives. Moses as a result of anger did not enter into the promise land. Though it was God’s will for him to lead the children of Israel unto the promise land. But his inability to control his anger prevented him. Moses smote the rock twice against the instruction of the Lord, when he ought to have spoken to the rock – Numbers 20:1-12. What he didn’t know according to 1st Corinthians 10:4 is that that rock was Christ Jesus. Moses as a result of anger, spoke roughly to the children of Israel and called them rebels, which before God was displeasing – Numbers 20:10.

I know a lady who destroyed her womb and took away her ability to conceive because of uncontrollable anger. She got angry and hit her pregnancy against the floor during a heated argument with her husband. For many years she was unable to conceive and the marriage has ended up in divorce. Ecclesiastes 7:9, “Be not hasty in the spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.” May your anger not control you in the name of Jesus Christ. May God grant you the ability to be in charge during a period of anger. Proverbs 16:32 says, “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.” A man’s strength is expressed in his ability to control himself when angry. This is what is called temperance and it is one of the fruit of the spirit – Galatians 5:23.

Remember that Simeon and Levi lost their inheritance as a result of anger. They murdered a whole city because one person forcefully slept with their sister. Genesis 34:1-29. But when the time came for them to inherit the blessing, they lost it. Genesis 49:5-7, “Simeon and Levi are brethren; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations. O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall. Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce, and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.”

There are two ways to deal with anger and other controlling vices, they are:

1. By the constant renewing of your minds. Romans 12:2, Ephesians 4:23.

2. By the consistent infilling of the Holy Ghost. Ephesians 5:18-21

These two will help you maintain balance and deal with the issue of anger in your life.

God richly bless you
