Developing Spiritual Impetus (Capacity)

Impetus is the ability to make a change. It’s the force that makes you productive. The higher your impetus or capacity the more result you produce at what you do. There is no individual or nation that can succeed without consistently increasing her capacity. Increasing your impetus adds to the nation because you are creating more ability, you are adding more value to the nation. In whatever you are doing in life make sure you are increasing your impetus from time to time and become much more skillful at what you do.

What makes a lot of people poor is because they never add to their abilities. Inasmuch as people remain the same without understanding and knowledge, they remain poor, they remain small without increase. As a Christian you must make sure you increase in your ability or capacity from time to time, even in 2nd Peter 1:5 the Bible says, “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge.” For example, you will discover that at some point in time that the money coming out of that business is not enough to cater for your needs but you don’t have to wait till that point, you have to think ahead to create more avenue for money to flow towards you no matter how little. When you do that it increases your impetus. Many people are poor because they never have the wisdom to increase their impetus.

Developing mental, physical impetus is important but the most important is your spiritual impetus. As a Christian you must continually and consistently fan your spiritual impetus. The day you stop increasing your spiritual capacity you start dying gradually, until it gets to a point where you start doubting your Christianity. Your zeal for God and the things of God will not keep burning on its own; you must make deliberate effort to increase in it. In Luke 2:46-47 & 52, “And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers” and in verse 52 the Bible says “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” At the age of twelve Jesus was already studying and increasing in knowledge, preparing for the work He was going to start at the age of thirty. He was building and increasing His impetus awaiting the future.

The greatest thing that you ever need in your life is knowledge through which you gain understanding, without understanding there is no wisdom. There are three pillars that hold a man’s foundation which will make you a success. They are: Knowledge, Understanding, and Wisdom. Proverbs 24:3-4 says, “Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.” Jesus Christ understood that the first thing he needed to catch to be a successful minister is wisdom. Many people do not know what to do in their lives, not because they are not smart but because they lack knowledge, understanding and the wisdom of God. In the wisdom of God there is solution to every problem. “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Proverbs 4:7. Without wisdom your salvation will not produce result. Wisdom is the ability to work out your own salvation; it is the key that makes things to work in the kingdom. The first thing that Jesus sought after and the first thing He got was knowledge, then understanding and wisdom.

How do I get this wisdom? The bible says in 2nd Timothy 3:14-15, “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” Wisdom comes by studying and meditating the word of God. Studying and meditating the word increases your spiritual ability. Spend time studying the word. God is remolding character in you when you spend time in study and meditation. The more you go far from the word, the more foolishness increases in you even though you are a Christian. The word of God will inspire you and turn you into a new man.

Jesus after acquiring knowledge, understanding and your wisdom, He added power to increase His spiritual impetus. You need the power of the Holy Ghost (Matthew 3:16-17). Add power to you wisdom, Luke 4:1-2, “And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.” After receiving the Holy Ghost, He added fasting and prayers. Verse 14 of Luke 4 tells us what happens when this is done, “And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.” People will know you if you follow this principles.

Beloved, if you want these things to work for you, you must be consistent in them. You must practice them and make them a lifestyle. Practice the Holy Spirit, practice Prayers; practice the word, practice wisdom. Build your spiritual impetus and ensure you are increasing in grace all the time.

God bless you richly. See you next month
