2019 THE YEAR OF THE WORD OF GOD

Hello dearly beloved, welcome to 2019, the year of the Word of God. 

Every December, we enter into the new year with great expectations, hope and dreams only to realize at the end of the year that most of them aren't fulfilled. We haven't sat down to ask ourselves why our dreams and desires haven't really been manifested. Yet every year we keep hoping that things will change one day which is nothing but mere illusion. 

A great man once said that doing the same thing same way and expecting a different result is nothing but insanity. I have discovered that the children of the kingdom are the most susceptible to deceit because they lack knowledge and understanding of the word of God that gave birth to them in the first place. They are like the children of Israel that told Moses to go hear from the Lord and tell them because they felt it was not needful hearing God by themselves and for themselves. 

So, every year God's children wait for God to do the unusual in their lives. Meanwhile, while they are waiting for miracles from the Lord, God is waiting for them to create miracles for themselves and better their lives by applying His Word. 

While I don't dispute the fact that God does use His sovereignty and perform miracles for a chosen few irrespective of their faith and believe in Him or the Word of God, I dare say to you that that is not God's original way of functioning. If you will go through the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) you will discover that God's original way of helping people is for the people to believe and put their faith and confidence in Christ Jesus. Though Jesus Christ helped a few people using His sovereignty outside the faith of such individuals, but they were few and minimal compare to those He helped through their faith in Him. 

If I could count them. 1. The impotent man at the pool of Bethesda in John chapter 5. 2. The widow's dead child that was raised in Luke chapter 7. And 3. Malchus whose ear was cut off by Peter in John chapter 18. Apart from these, I know no one that was helped by the Lord in that order. 

Though you may ask in your heart how you could put your trust in Jesus Christ knowing that He is no longer on the earth. Dearly beloved, that is the reason God gave us His word. There is no difference between the man Jesus Christ and the written or spoken Word of God (John 1:1-5). Jesus is the Word of God. Putting your faith in the Word of God is putting your faith in Christ Jesus (God). The Bible says, "...Say not in thine heart, who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) or, who shall descend into the deep?(that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is the word of faith, which we preach" Romans 10:6-8. Faith in Christ Jesus is the Word in your mouth and in your heart. 

The Word of God is given to us to chart the course of our lives. You can determine the outcome of your 2019 by focusing on the Word. Every other thing may fail but child of God, it is impossible for God's Word to fail. How do you determine the outcome of your 2019 relying on the Word? 

1. Hear the Word regularly. Romans 10:17 says, "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). Realize that there is no other place where you can hear the Word of God like the church or the house of God. Attend church regularly, hear the Word. Put down in writing what you heard and go back home and meditate on them like the Bereans in Acts 17:11. 

2. Do or practice what you hear. James 1:22, "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." Also read Matthew 7:24-27. Faith is an act. It is acting or doing the Word that activates the blessing. Don't just hear the Word this New Year, make sure you practice it. Take side with the Word this year by doing it. 

3. Speak the Word and not your circumstances. Many believers have the habit of always confessing or professing their situations. No! Don't do that this 2019. No matter the situation that comes your way speak the word, hold on to it without doubting until you see changes. Hebrews 10:23, "Let us hold fast the profession (confession) of our faith without wavering (doubting); (for he is faithful that promised ;). 

4. Take your focus or thought away from your circumstances, focus on the Word. Think the Word and not the problem. God doesn't only do what you ask for, He also do what you think (Ephesians 3:20). Also, 2 Corinthians 4:18, "While we look (think) not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal." 

Dear friend, if you will focus on the few spiritual nuggets above I guarantee you that by the end of 2019, you will pinch your flesh to find out if it is really you because you would have made a huge difference between where you are right now and where you would be.
