The Pitfall of Fornication part one

Beloved, I welcome you into the second quarter of the year 2019. May you experience all of God’s goodness this month and may your mouth be filled with testimonies in Jesus name. I will like to share with you on what I titled, “THE PITFALL OF FORNICATION.”

Fornication is a sin in our world which has brought great men and women to their kneels and truncated the purpose of God for their lives. This very act has brought down kings, nations and kingdoms. The Bible says, “My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. Keep my commandments and live; and my law as the apple of thine eyes. Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the tables of thine heart. Say unto wisdom, thou art my sister, and call understanding thy kingswoman. That thou may keep thee from the strange woman, from the strange which flattereth with her words. For at the window of my house I looked through my casement, And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night: And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtle of heart… so she caught him, and kissed him and with an impudent face said unto him… Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee. I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: Let us solace ourselves with loves…. With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him, He goeth after her straightway, as an Ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stacks.” (Proverbs 7:1-10, 13, 15-18, 21,22).

Unfortunately, many make the same decision as the young man and woman whom Solomon peeped at through his window that night. Likewise, God looks down through heaven’s window upon the sons of men and sees a world that is obsessed with sexual gratification. One can see the marks of this crave through nearly every outlet of society. Look at the advertising community; it is overwhelming obsessed with exploiting the woman’s body for sales. Television’s frequently aim their jokes in the area of a sexual nature. One cannot pass through the supermarket without easily seeing magazines of newly nude women on display. Many movies thrive on some kind of fornication to sell their movies.

When we talk about the pitfall of fornication, it is essential that we define what we mean. By “pitfall” we mean dangers and consequences of such a sin. By fornication, we mean unlawful sexual intercourse (i.e. premarital, extra-marital or adulterous, homosexual/lesbians etc). The dangers of fornication are real. Too often a young man or woman who has a promising career throws it all away because of fornication. Reputations are shattered, good examples are gone, and influence is lost in the musk of such scenes. The wise man was correct when he penned, “For by means of whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life. Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in his neighbour’s: whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.” (Proverbs 6:26-29).

Fornication is real problem that even the strong have succumbed to (proverbs 7:26). One can simply ponder on David, a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22), a man of faith (Hebrews 11:32), and one who opposed and victoriously overcame the enemies of God, yet one who was overcome by lust and committed a grievous transgression while David repented and wad forgiven, the rest of his days were not the same. Do not be deceived, fornications is dangerous, what makes it so dangerous, however is not the physical consequences that may befall such a person but the spiritual severance from God almighty.

Fornication is not alternative or wise or acceptable, it is a sin and rebellion against God that comes with ugly consequences. “For the lips of a strange woman drip as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.” Proverbs 5:3-5. Fornication damns the soul and will keep one out of heaven if not repented of (Galatians 5;19-21; 1st Corinthians 6:9-11).
