IT'S NOT WORTH IT: The Pitfall of Fornication Part two

Dearly beloved, I welcome you in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ into the glorious month of June. May His glory be revealed in you in Jesus name. Here is a continuation of last months edition titled ‘THE PITFALL OF FORNICATION.’

Fornication is not alternative or wise or acceptable, it is a sin and rebellion against God that comes with ugly consequences. For the lips of a strange woman drips as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: but her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. Her feet go down to death; her steps takes hold on hell.” Proverbs 5:3-5. Fornication damns the soul and will keep one out of heaven if not repented of. (Galatians 5:19-21; 1st Corinthians 6:9-10).

The word of God is indeed our manual for true living. Before we ever existed, the word of God already was. Therefore, it will be right and wise to settle down and draw wisdom from the word so our lives will be what God has proposed it to be. In Proverbs 5:7-13, the Bible says, “Hear me now therefore, O ye children and depart not from the words of my mouth. Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her home: lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel: lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger; And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed, And say, How have I hated instructions and my heart despised reproof: And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me.” Clearly revealed in the above scripture are the consequences when one decide to continue in such sexual act:

1. It will strip such a person of honour, respect and God’s glory.
2. It will make such a person poor.
3. It will make the labour of his/her hands unfruitful.
4. It will bring about sickness and disease.
5. Such a life will be short circuited at a young age.
6. Finally, such a soul will end up in hell (Proverbs 5:5).

What then can one do to avoid the tragedies of walking down such a pathway of doom?

1. Ask the Lord for forgiveness and repent. The fact that things are still going on smoothly does not mean such act is alright with God. The Bible says in Romans 2:4, “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?” God is more willing to forgive you only if you come to him and ask. (1st John 1:9)

2. Watch over your heart. You must seek to watch over your heart. Solomon wrote. “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the oaths for your feet.” (Proverbs 4:23,25 and 26a NIV). When inflamed with evil passion, you need to stop and think about the way that you are going. The truth of the matter is that we train our hearts to become what it is. Peter wrote of some as having “an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children.” If we want a heart that is trained for purity then we you must meditate on pure things (Philippians 4:8) Feed your heart with the word and allow it renew your mind through meditation.

3. Practice The Word. We must live soberly, righteously and godly in this present age (Titus 2:12). It is one thing to train your heart for righteousness, but you must become a practitioner of godliness. This means that we must utilize some discretion about the environment which we subject ourselves to. We must recognize and deliberately give ourselves to God’s word by the doing of it. “Walk in the spirit and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”(Galatians 5:16).  Flee fornication (1st Corinthians 6:18). If such a situation ever presents itself to you, don’t linger around and try to reason with it or think you will surmount it, just flee! Run for your life and escape! Flee like Joseph did in Genesis 39.

Beloved, fornication is a sin that is destructive to the soul. Don’t live a double life. If you are presently living in this sin, get out of it and ask God to forgive you. “A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke. (Proverbs 13:1).

May God bless you. See you next month.
