JOY (A Great Virtue)

Hello my dearly beloved saints, I bring you greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I thank God that you are living in grace and victory of our Lord. I want to admonish you on what I titled ‘Joy (a great virtue)’.

The power of God triumph in an atmosphere that is full of joy. The power of God is limited where there is sorrow, unhappiness and gloom. Many people do not know the role that joy plays in obtaining victory from God. Proverbs 17:22 says, “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.”

The first thing that is required of us believers is to carry a joyful countenance. The devil knows that he cannot succeed in our lives when we are joyful, hence he tries to make us unhappy and sorrowful by bringing to our door steps all manner of trials and temptations. But thank God we are more than conquerors through Christ that loved us – Romans 8:37.

Jesus realized the importance of Joy as it relates to our victory against life’s challenges admonished us in John 6:22 thus, “…and your joy no man taketh from you.” Jesus wouldn’t tell us to allow no man take our joy if it isn’t possible for our joy to be taken or stolen. Every time the devil tries to steal our joy by using men and circumstances against us. Child of God don’t despair, the trouble will be over soon if you don’t give up.

Jesus said is in John 16:6, 33b thus, “But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.” “…but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” Maybe you are here today, you have received a bad news from somebody – Jesus wants me to tell you, be of good cheer I have overcome the world. You may have some challenges that may be troubling your mind, be of good cheer – Jesus has overcome the world. Perhaps things aren’t working as planned, be of good cheer – Your God has overcome for you.

If Jesus has not overcome for you, He wouldn’t say He has. See how amplified Bible renders that verse in John 16:33b, “…But be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you]. Beloved, refuse to worry, quit the sorrow – Jesus has overcome the world for you.

WHAT JOY?

There is a difference between the ordinary joy people experience and the joy that the Bible talks about.
Worldly joy comes as a result of temporary circumstances, like promotion at work, new job, increase salary, the birth of a baby etc. This is the joy that comes as a result of outward circumstances, This type of joy is short lived and temporal because they are controlled or determined by the circumstances of life. But the joy the scriptures talks about is called the joy of the Lord, it is the joy that comes from your inner being as a result of your relationship with the Lord. It has nothing to do with your outer circumstances. It is a joy that is deeply rooted in your heart through the promises of God and the person of the Holy Ghost.

See you next month. God bless you
