FOOD FOR TEENS: THE PARABLE OF THE SEED

Matthew 13:31-32 says, “Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.” Before we delve into our topic proper I would like to first and foremost establish a baseline for these parables and several other statements in the Bible so that we can get proper insight to what they truly represent.

One of the figure of speech in English Language is simile; it is the comparison between two unlike things using "like" or "as", "She was acting LIKE a pig." Based on this example it is easy to understand that she was acting in a dirty manner. So whenever you see the word "as" or "like" in a sentence it is used to compare two different things with the same core characteristics.

Back to our Matthew 13:31, there's a comparison between the kingdom of God and a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field. I want us to identify the core characteristics in this parable and to further understand this Jesus went further in the next verse; Matthew 13:33, “Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.”

The core characteristics between these parables and the kingdom of heaven are;

1. Something small or of little significance in size was planted (1st parable seed, 2nd parable leaven)
2. That "small thing" over a period of time became the determining factor for the great outcome that was produced in the place where it was planted.

What is this Seed?

Jesus explained to us what the seed is in Luke 8:11, “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.” The word here refers to the gospel which is all that Jesus has died and resurrected to release unto us in the form of His promises. No wonder scripture tells us in 2nd Peter 1:4, “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” When we take the promises of God in Christ Jesus in the form of His Word, 1st Peter 1:23 says, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” What we are sowing is His divinity into our lives this seed is incorruptible, that is to say this seed is eternal, cannot be corrupted by anything. So when planted nothing can stop it's outcome because contained in that seed is the supernatural ability of God to replicate heaven on wheresoever that seed is planted.

So if you sow that seed of health in your body, no matter how sick that body may be, even if it is to the point of death, life must grow out because this seed is superior to any and all, it can not be corrupted by any situation.

For the purpose of this article we are going to list just two examples of seeds in God's word that we must plant in our lives even though there are hundreds in Scriptures.

1. The seed for your health; 1st Peter 2:24, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
2. The seed for your finances; 2nd Corinthians 8:9, “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.”

HOW DO WE PLANT THESE SEEDS INTO OUR LIVES?

We plant these seeds by meditation and declaration. When we meditate what we do is to replace the thoughts that has controlled our lives in time past with the thoughts(seed) of God's word.
The belief systems we have held came from the thoughts that were formed in our subconscious over a long period of time. This is why a lot of people no matter how hard they try can't seem to have the faith to create the change they desire because it almost impossible to believe God without proper and consistent meditation on God's word, that is why scripture tells us that faith comes by hearing the word of God. So when you plant the word of God into your heart, you through meditation put the word of God in the deepest part of your heart where it begins to create in you a heart of faith no wonder David tells us in Psalm 119:11, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Once the word gets into your heart, it begins to control you and it is only a matter of time before your profiting appears to all.

God bless you and have a blessed month ahead.
