FOOD FOR TEENS: THE HOUR OF PRAYER

The Bible says in the book of Acts 3:1 thus, “Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.” From the above scripture we can see clearly that the apostles had a time of prayer, they were so disciplined in this regard that they called that time of the day “the hour of prayer”, no wonder they had tremendous results in their ministry, they understood the place of prayer in their lives and they knew they could not afford to compromise on prayers hence they had different hours of prayers.

These men exercised themselves unto godliness until it became a vital part of their lives, the 9th hour according to the above scripture was 3 pm of the day, this is usually the high point of each day, while others were running around looking for money these men knew something that a lot of us still hasn’t gotten and that is the fact that prayer is the way we keep the oil of God fresh upon our lives, in the place of prayers that’s where the natural and the super gets meet and give birth to supernatural experiences. No wonder they told the man who was lame at the gate of the temple that though they didn’t have silver and gold but they had something more, Acts 3:6, “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” which is the spiritual substance required to solve every problem.

When we get to understand that the promise God made to us was the promise of His Spirit, He didn’t promise us cars and money but He promised us His Spirit, you know why? His Spirit is that part of God that makes God God. His Spirit is the carrier of all of God’s blessings to us on earth, no wonder Galatians 3:13-14 says, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” You see? The promise of the Spirit. on the day of Pentecost guess thing the Apostles told the Jews who were in awe of them? The promise of the Spirit has come. Acts 2:16-17, “But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.”

These all died in faith not having received the promises...(Heb 11: 13) All the Patriarchs died in faith but didn’t receive the promise because the Spirit of God was not yet given. Jesus said in Luke 11:13, “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?” Every other blessing is locked up in the Holy Spirit of Promise, if you have received Jesus and you are filled with the Holy Ghost, you carry the blessing in you; that is the power to create any outcome that is for your good. Ephesians 1:13-14, “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” The Word earnest means down payment, when God tells us He has given us the first part of our inheritance as believers in Christ in the Person of the Holy Spirit, that means there’s more to this Holy Spirit than we think, Jesus said He will send us another comforter, that mean an exact substitute of Himself for us which the Holy Spirit, WOW.

The only way to activate this power in you is through a consistent prayer life, especially praying in the Holy Ghost; 2nd Timothy 1:6-7 “Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

This is why we must pray always, we must take prayers like the Early Apostles did, it must be the secret to our success. This is why the devil always tries to distract and discourage you from praying, because if you continue, you will definitely be unstoppable, God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him, not those who seek Him whenever they feel like but those who are persistent and continue instant in prayers and the study of His Word. God bless you as you continue in the practice of God’s word, see you next month.
