POWER IN YOUR WORDS part one

Do you know that you can become a Christian and still be ungodly? When you say you are a Christian, it means that you are on your way to acting and looking like God in all that you do. 1st Timothy 4:7 says, “But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.” To be Godly means to act and look like God in all that you do. It is bad for somebody to become a Christian and doesn’t look like, think, talk and act like God. One of the things God wants us to do immediately after receiving Christ is, learning how to be like Him. That is what is called spiritual maturity which means that you have started growing.

One of the attributes of God is that He doesn’t fail. If God doesn’t fail, and we are His Children, born by Him with His Spiritual DNA on the inside of us, then we are not supposed to fail in anything. If God succeeds in all He does, then you are supposed to succeed also. It is a mis-normal for a person who professes to be a Christian to be unsuccessful, though it is possible. You can be a Christian and still walk in failure but the Bible says you must exercise yourself to be like God. And if you want to be like God, you must exercise yourself to become a success in all that you do. When you look around and see men or women with strong muscles and six packs, such persons were first slim or fat but they decided to change it through exercise. The Bibles says in 1st Timothy 4:8 thus, “For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of this life that now is, and of that which is to come.” Just like you exercise yourself physically which produces little profit, you can exercise yourself to godliness and you’ll overcome at all times. Just like you train yourself to have six packs and strong muscles, you can also train yourself to become a spiritual macho-man. Every man has the tendency to be Spiritually macho but it is only those who train that will have it. When you see a man or woman looking so fat, that is not his/her natural state but if they will burn all that fat through exercise, they will become fit. So also, we can become spiritually obessed or lazy and won’t realise it. And you’ll keep wondering why things are not working, even your prayers aren’t working. But you can train yourself to become a spiritual macho-man. In the book of John 14:12 the Bibles, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” Jesus wasn’t drunk when He said this, He is telling you that you can do better and greater things than He did but you have to exercise your faith.

In the book of Mark 11:12-14, 20-23, the Bible says, “And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply might find anything thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.” “And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you. That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he said shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” This show of power demonstrated by Jesus is not exclusive only to Jesus, He is telling you that you can do this and more. Look at the book of Matthew 8:5-8, “And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him. And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.” What is the secret to the centurions faith that He knew that Jesus didn’t have to come under his roof to heal his servant.? Matthew 8:9-10 has the answer, “For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, He marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.” In other words, Jesus was saying this is the greatest kind of faith, it is higher and more powerful; where you exercise your authority by speaking.
There is power in your words, you need to exercise your authority. One of the challenges many Christians have is that they are not submissive to the authority over them. The devil and his principalities cannot be submissive to you when you are not submissive to the higher authority which is God. Lets look at another example of Jesus exercising His authority through his words, In the book of John 4:46-53 the Bible says, “So, Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. The noble man said unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, thy son liveth. Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.” You’ve got to believe that your words carry tremendous power just as the word of God carries power. You speak it and don’t waver, you stand your ground that you have said it and it must come to pass. Don’t doubt it.

In the book of 2nd Kings the children of Israel were having problems with the Syrians and there was great famine in the land that women began eating their children. The king heard of this and he sent for Elisha. 2nd Kings 6:33 says, “And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?” The Lord was punishing them for the sin that they committed, but here is a man (Elisha) wanting to change the situation; 2nd Kings 7:1-2, “Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria. Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this things be? And he(Elisha) said, Behold thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.” Elisha was standing in the place of God, speaking on His behalf. When you speak believing, you are standing in the place of God, taking the form of God and speaking. Don’t think how it is going to happen, all you need to do is believe. If you believe, it shall come to pass.

How does it work? Jesus gave us the answer in Mark 11:23 thus, “For verily I say unto you. That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he said shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” The first thing you need to do is, don’t doubt. This is the reason many people don’t recieve answers. When you speak, you release the power of God into the air, but can you sustain it? It is not about what you have spoken, it is the sustainability after you have spoken, that is where the fight is. The devil will paint a contrary negative picture of what you have spoken in your mind. Why? So that you change what you have said, so that you stop believing. James 1:5-8 says, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive anything of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” Learn to hold your ground, be firm and resolute and refuse to doubt.

God bless you. See you next month.
