IT'S NOT WORTH IT: DON'T DESPISE SPIRITUAL INSTRUCTIONS

Dearly beloved, may the glory of God be revealed in your life this month in Jesus name. This month I will be sharing with you on what I titled, ‘Don’t despise spiritual instructions.’

Many Christians today have lost many opportunities for breakthrough because the process bruised their ego. But God is always on the look out for the weak, poor, unclean, imperfect etc. For the one who will follow every word of spiritual instructions, to turn their stories around, to glorify himself. As believers, obedience is key. Try as much as possible to overlook the process. Instead let your focus be on the results. The process may be substandard but the results will be divine.

1st Samuel 15:22 says, “And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold to obey is better than sacrifice, and to harken than the fat of rams.” When you are given spiritual instructions, it is so important that you not only understand them but also act on them. For example, a minister may give an instruction in a congregation that those who wants to give their hearts to Christ should stand up and come forward. If someone in that congregation who wants to be born again refuses to stand up and step out, thinking ‘must I go out there?’ I can give my heart to Christ right here. He has already acted in disobedience to that instruction of the spirit and he is most unlikely to leave that place born again.

The Bible says in Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instructions.” Often times, the Word of God comes to us as spiritual instructions. Proverbs 4:13 says, “Take first hold of instructions; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.” When an instruction of the Spirit is given, not only is it important that those instructions be understood, they must also be acted upon. Any form of resistance or disobedience is what God refers to as ‘witchcraft’. The Bible says, “For rebellion is as of the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry...” – 1st Samuel 15:23.

An example is King Saul. God instructed Saul to destroy the Amalekites and everything they had, including their animals but he ignored the instruction. He didn’t destroy their sheep and oxen, because according to him, “...the people took of the spoils, sheep, and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in Gilgal.” (1st Samuel 15:21). That wasn’t the instruction. The instruction was to clear: destroy everything. God didn’t say preserve the choice animals for sacrifice unto me. It is important that you follow God’s word and His instructions to the letter. Do things His way and you will always be a success. Saul lost the kingship over Israel forever by choosing his own way and harkening to the voice of the people against God’s specific instructions.

As you walk with the Lord and carry out that which He instructs you to do, you must painstakingly pay attention to the spiritual details because of their importance. Moses for example learnt this the hard way. In Numbers 20:8, God instructed him, “Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beast drink.” Moses didn’t know how important it was when God told him to talk to the rock. The instruction to speak to the rock was of spiritual significance which he ignored and struck the rock instead. It was the mistake of his life. The instruction seemed so light to Moses but the rest of his ministry was hinged on it; he didn’t know it. Moses, however wouldn’t be the one to lead the children of Israel to the promised land because of this error.

In serving the Lord this year, it’s very important that you always listen to the details of His instructions, however insignificant to the flesh they might sound. God’s word is God’s instruction, live your life, not according to man’s instructions, information or opinions, but according to the word. God leads you in the path of greatness by giving you clear and specific instructions to follow.

Always remember that His wisdom is greater than man’s wisdom; therefore be sensitive to the guidiance he gives you through the word of God, and by the Holy Spirit, and you’ll have a beautiful and exceptional life, and gloriously fulfil His calling and destiny for your life.

God bless you. See you next month.
